WinMX Change default for Search settings by Vladd44

WinMX Search Settings

This page will cover a few basic tips that people often overlook. It is possible to not only set the default filetypes that WinMX will search for, but you can change the 3 buttons in search window, to give you 3 additional options in a single click.

All of them can be reached by going to Settings, Internet Connection, Search:. Below in the screen capture, you will be able to see exactly what is being described.

Setting Default Search Parameters

Here you can set the default type, and what connection types you want to search for. There is also a remember option, so you can continue to search for the same filetypes you had previously. As you can see, my default search is set to Video.

Setting AFS AEQ Defaults

Go to Settings, Internet Connection, Search:

This will allow you to set a one size fits all option, but with the remember previous option, you can change them, and WinMX will recall your settings for each specific file.

A good rule of thumb for AFS/AEQ settings are below.

FileType Buttons

Looking at the above example, you can also see where to change the default options on the buttons. I have no idea why WinMX set one of the buttons to search for jpgs. A complete waste of the value of the button. As you can see, I replaced images, with an archive button.

Results Display

Here you can choose to have results Expanded, or not. Expanded allows you to see what is going on with each individual user you are downloading or queued on, rather than just the file in general.

What are Filetypes

Most of the types are self explanatory, but I will give a brief overview of a few.

Ogg Audio is to search for OGGvorbis Files, they are compressed audio like MP3s but are much better quality for similar sizes.

Archive is to search for programs, either compressed versions or disk images.

If you aren't sure you can always use Any File/ Bitrate.
