Improve Downloading Speeds and Sources

The most important settings you can set to improve download chances is AFS(Auto Find Sources) and AEQ(Auto Enter Queue). They will allow WinMX to continue to look for sources to complete the file, even when you are away. It is also a good idea to set the default settings for these two. It will generate a setting for every file, rather than have to set each one specifically. You can learn more about setting the default (and other generally overlooked settings here

First read Find Sources can be used to look for sources at anytime, regardless of how long its been.

Search for Alternates is not only a valuable tool in finding people with the same file, it is also vital in making sure you don't download any fakes. ( Avoiding Downloading Fakes click here).


Other basic tips are Share.....many users (myself included) will cancel the download of any user who is not sharing. If you happen to be a user that dislikes leeches as much as I do, use MX-Monitor

It is not uncommon for users to expect those downloading large files to share large files. After all it is called filesharing, not file leeching.

Also understand that WPNP (WinMX default network) is a decentralized network. Frequent use of Find Sources and Search for Alternates will continue to find new sources. Remember the more sources the better your chance of getting one to actually start. Multi-source can also significantly improve the download speeds you reach with WinMX.
