WinMX Strange Characters in Filename

Strange Characters in Filename

This is a common problem, the strange characters are most common when downloading anime and Asian files. Fortunately, there is a simple way to overcome this problem. But one of the negatives is that it will not label the file in the normal INCOMPLETE..... format that WinMX does for incomplete files if the files is not completed.

For detailed instructions on how to add the incomplete tags click here

Right-click the file you are having problems with. Choose Manually Download

manually1

Then choose Manually browse for the file to resume from

manually2

Enter Filename and extension you wish. Click Open

manually3

Now for the hard part...getting the incomplete information on the file so u can treat it like any other file.

This will only be needed if the download terminates before completion, and it can be avoided then by choose option 1 below, but you will have to resume the download manually, because it will not have hash information available. The information below tells you how to add it.

There are two options.

1.Manually resume once again, but instead of entering a new filename, just choose the file you created in the method above.

2. Find an user sharing the file that you have part of (Make sure size is identical), this is best to do at beginning of your attempt. Just click the file to attempt to download. (see example below)

anime

Cancel it, this is just to get hash info in proper state. Then open folder in which it is in (open incoming files folder in transfer window)

incoming

Find that file in your incoming file folder.

animeinc

right click it, rename , while it is still active in rename right click copy.

Now open notepad, and paste filename into it. This step could be eliminated, but in the interest of accuracy (it has to be exact) I would suggest this as the best way to achieve the desired result.

Now compare results on notepad to name in Transfer window of WinMX, delete the entire filename listed in transfer window. Leaving only the hash information and the __Incomplete__ prefix.

Example:

__INCOMPLETE___(C) PASSION 쎛 [TvC{[C DVDLONo1]52RObقNJS(1)59ec3d926aa728ac49ef9dd9f9f607d6347ef558.mpg

with the following eliminated.(What is listed in transfer window not counting file extension (in this case .mpg))

(C) PASSION 쎛 [TvC{[C DVDLONo1]52RObقNJS(1)

leaves you with , __INCOMPLETE___59ec3d926aa728ac49ef9dd9f9f607d6347ef558.mpg

now, after the underscore and before the number is where you can put the filename of your choice......

__INCOMPLETE___Unknown Anime File59ec3d926aa728ac49ef9dd9f9f607d6347ef558.mpg

And now the last step. copy the new name out notepad, then open folder that the file u have the partial of that you wish to make a fully functional resumable file is. right click it, rename , right click paste, press enter. And now the filename you had in notepad should be the new name. If it is in the incoming file folder, pressing Load Incomplete button in transfer window should bring up the file in transfer window. If not then there was an error. Good Luck

At this point you are able to delete the file that you attempted to download just to get the hash value.

I Know these instructions are not as clear as I would like, but they are describing a procedure that isn't hard, yet requires several steps in different window environments. Hope it is clear enough, if not leave a msg in forum and I will try to clarify.
