WinMX searching for other filetypes

Searching for other filetypes

There are a wide variety of files available on the WinMX network. Searching for something other than whatever you have chosen as default is easy.

Just go to Transfers Window. Below where there are two lines for Artist and Name, you will see 4 buttons. The first three by defaults are Audio, Video, Pictures with the fourth button being the one you are searching for (MP3 any bitrate) by default. Click it and a dropdown menu will appear as in the example below.

searchtype

Most of the types are self explanatory, but I will give a brief overview of a few.

Ogg Audio is to search for OGGvorbis Files, they are compressed audio like MP3s but are much better quality for similar sizes.

Archive is to search for programs, either compressed versions or disk images.

If you aren't sure you can always use Any File/ Bitrate.

You can also change the defaults that WinMX searches for, if you search for a specific type of file more than MP3s, make it the default instead. Go here for an explanation of how to set the defaults.

If you are searching for other filetypes, it also stands to reason that you may want to add other types to be shared.
