Bittorrent Port 6881 Blacklisted for me by Vladd44

Port 6881 is Blacklisted

Why is port 6881 (6881-6999) blacklisted

With Internet Service Providers limiting bandwidth for p2p networks becoming more and more common. Some Trackers are trying to "encourage" people to use non standard ports. By doing so they hope to increase upload bandwith, which will allow for a better speed for everyone.

To do so, the tracker rejects connections to IP addresses trying to connect with one of the standard ports. Most bans can last up to 48 hours. So if the torrent doesnt connect after you change your port, be patient.

The Solution

Its really pretty simple, just choose a new TCP listening port. Below I have listed Instructions for 2 of the more common BitTorrent Clients, Azureus and BitTornado. With this information, it shouldnt be to hard to do the same on other clients.

Azureus

Open Azurues.

Then Choose Tools from the menubar, then select Options.

azureus-tools

Under Connection you should see Incoming TCP ports:

incoming-azureus

Change the Incoming TCP listen port. Use something non standard. List of Standard Ports

Click the Save Button on the bottom left.

save

Restart Azureus.

BitTornado

Open up the program and click on Prefs

tornado-prefs

Select your own range within the region 10000 through 65535. Make sure the Randomize Box is checked.

randomize-tornado

Restart Bit Tornado
