How to split an Mpeg into multiple files

There are a variety of ways to cut a Mpeg files, for this demonstration I will use TMPGEnc. I will do so because there is no need for me to explain all of them, and this program is free and quite efficient at doing so.

There is no one size fits all program for cutting Mpeg files, depending on how they were encoded will reflect on how well some programs will work. But if you converted with the method described in my avi to vcd question this should work fine. If for some reason TMPGEnc doesn't work go to http://vcdhelp.com/ for more options.

CD Size: 74min/650mb Max MPG Mins: 76 Minutes Max MPG Size: 654 MB

CD Size: 80min/700mb Max MPG Mins: 82 Minutes Max MPG Size: 702 MB

You may be able to burn a little more on a cd through overburn, but it will be hit or miss. It would also be suggested that you find a good place to cut your file. In the middle of a high intensity action scene would be ill advised.

Install and run. If the wizard comes up, close it, its not worth your time.

On Image A, Go to File -> Mpeg Tools. (Alt-F, Alt-T).

Click Merge and Cut (2), next click Add button (3). Choose the video type you are cutting (4)..If it is a Mpeg you converted by the method described on my avi to vcd page, choose MPEG-1 Video-CD. If Mpeg is from another source choose "'Mpeg-1 System (Auto)". If there is a problem, then try the other options, one of them will work, but most of the time .If it is a Mpeg you converted by the method described on my avi to vcd page, choose

Mpeg tool will give you some basic info, but it is not a complete program. But it will verify if a mpg is vcd compatible . you can get it here

Browse and name output file (5), Then, highlight file u wish to cut (6). Click Edit (7)

Clicking edit will bring up the image below (IMAGE C)

Use the Range settings (8) or the Slider bar (9) to select where you want this clip to start. Then click the start at button (10). Next move the slider bar until it reaches where you want the video clip to end and press the mark end button (11).

Press OK (12). Then Press the Run button.

Remember where you cut the file if you are making a multiple CD Compilation. It would be wise to allow a few seconds of overlap between CD 1 and CD 2. Good Luck, and good cutting.
